NY: Employee accused of sneaking heroin, other drugs into Central NY jail

Syracuse News –

WHITESTOWN, N.Y. — Deputies got a tip Sunday morning that a cafeteria worker was smuggling drugs into the Oneida County jail.

The tip, according to deputies, quickly proved true: When confronted at the jail, the employee had a bundle filled with heroin and other drugs.

Shawn M. Stevens, 41, of Lowville, was arrested by the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office and charged with intending to sell drugs inside the Whitestown jail. He’s now being held in the same correctional facility he’s accused of sneaking contraband into.

Stevens has been charged with first-degree promoting prison contraband and third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, both felonies. As of Sunday afternoon, he was being held in the jail, awaiting arraignment.
