PA: State Police Investigating Meth Lab in Smicksburg

State police are investigating a Smicksburg man suspected of manufacturing methamphetamine.

Police say they were dispatched at 2:00 PM on Wednesday to 49 Hardship Drive in Smicksburg after receiving a lead from the county’s Probation Department Officers who called for assistance. When they got there, troopers found several items in the home that were consistent with the manufacturing of meth. State Police’s Clandestine Laboratory Response Team was activated to process, inventory and collect the contraband materials. Troopers also called in the Hazardous Device and Explosives team as they found a home-made firecracker-type explosive, which was removed from the house without incident.

Police did not release the suspect’s name, but described him as a 39-year-old Smicksburg man. Pending the results of lab analysis, he could be charged with two counts of operating a meth lab and illegal dumping of meth-related waste and single counts of manufacturing a controlled substance; criminal use of a communications facility; and possession of liquefied ammonia gas, precursors and chemicals, all listed as felonies.

Anyone who has information on drug-related crimes is urged to call their local police immediately or call the PA Drug Trafficking Tip Line at 1-877-PA-NO-DRUGS.
