NADDI is proud to support the International Overdose Awareness Day (IOAD), which is held each year on August 31 and is the world’s largest annual campaign to end overdose.
This is a day for us to remember those who have died from drug overdose and acknowledge the grief of the family and friends left behind. We encourage you to use the occasion of IOAD to raise awareness and help spread the hope of recovery and ending overdose.

This year for IOAD, CDC will release a new Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report (MMWR), “Drug Overdose Deaths with Evidence of Counterfeit Pill Use — United States, July 2019–December 2021.” Using data from CDC’s State Unintentional Drug Overdose Reporting System (SUDORS), this report describes trends in overdose deaths with evidence of counterfeit pill use during July 2019–December 2021 and characteristics of deaths with and without counterfeit pill evidence during 2021.
The CDC has developed an IOAD Partner Toolkit, including sample social media posts and other resources for you to use and share with your network.
Use the suggested Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn copy to spread the word. Schedule content to remind your networks about the importance of overdose awareness and prevention. Use #EndOverdose to join the conversation and tag us at @CDCInjury on Twitter!
Subscribe to the CDC email newsletter to receive updates, follow us on Twitter @CDCInjury, and share our IOAD Partner Toolkit.
