Woman pleads guilty to Medicaid, prescription fraud in Wise County 3

A woman pleaded guilty to two counts of Medicaid fraud and two counts of prescription fraud in a Wise County courtroom Thursday.

Deborah Fugate was employed at the Appalachian Medical Clinic when the facility was raided last year.

Dr. Michael Ford and his wife Una Faye Ford each entered an Alford pleas on July 25 for prescription fraud and Medicaid fraud. The Alford plea means the Fords did not admit guilt but acknowledged there was enough evidence to convict them. They’re scheduled for a sentencing hearing on December 16 and 17.

Officials say Michael Ford ran the clinic while Una Faye Ford and Fugate were employees. Fugate is scheduled for sentencing on October 2.
