Wise resident pleads guilty in Chinese fentanyl import case

A former adjunct college professor has pleaded guilty to a charge related to importing opioids from China.

Kristofer Rucinski, 35, of Wise, pleaded guilty Thursday in U.S. district court to one count of using a communications device to unlawfully import fentanyl and fentanyl analogues, according to a press release from U.S. Attorney Thomas Cullen.

Rucinski will be sentenced Oct. 11 in Abingdon. He faces a potential maximum sentence of four years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
