UT: Stolen box truck recovered; estimated $77,000 worth of medications not inside

box truck full of medication that was stolen from the University of Utah Saturday morning has been recovered, but according to Salt Lake City Police, an estimated $77,000 worth of prescription medications were not inside.

The University of Utah released an update Saturday night, saying:

The stolen vehicle reported this morning has been recovered. Four suspects are in custody. The University of Utah Police thank the public for their vigilance and awareness.

31-year-old Henry Ricky Sepulveda was observed on surveillance footage entering the driver side door of the delivery truck while it was parked near the entrance to the Huntsman Mental Health Institute.

According to a probable cause statement, Sepulveda was alerted to a media release that identified him as the suspect, and he turned himself in to University of Utah Police. After being advised of Miranda, he agreed to speak with a detective, and admitted to stealing the truck.

Salt Lake City Police located the truck at a storage complex in Salt Lake City approximately six hours after it was reported stolen. According to charging documents, 26-year-old Jamal Kilima Johnson was observed operating the vehicle as it entered the lot, and was taken into custody. He was also in possession of approximately 20 Oxycodone pills which matched the printed mark of the container of pharmaceuticals that had been stolen.

Johnson told police he had borrowed the truck from someone named “Javier,” and that he knew it was stolen and involved with stolen pharmaceuticals.
