Police discovered large quantity of susepected heroin during search of home

A Mapleton Depot woman was detained Thursday after an infant allegedly ingested fentanyl and xylazine, court documents stated.

Bethany A. Witters, 26, was arraigned Monday by Huntingdon County Magisterial District Judge Rufus S. Brenneman on felony counts of endangering the welfare of children, aggravated assault and drug possession, the criminal docket stated.

According to state police, a 1-year-old was taken to Penn Highlands Hospital, Huntingdon, for a possible drug overdose before being flown to UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh.

Witters allegedly told hospital staff that the child ingested apple cider vinegar and became unresponsive, but following a search warrant of Witters’ residence, officers discovered a large quantity of suspected heroin.

Police said a drug screen of the child was positive for fentanyl and xylazine.

Witters is currently detained at Huntingdon County Prison after she was unable to post cash bail of $500,000.

She is to appear before Brenneman on Aug. 24 for a preliminary hearing.
