A nurse found stealing fentanyl at work faces drug-related charges.
Woodburn’s 41-year-old Matthew Krem worked at St. Joseph’s Hospital in downtown Fort Wayne. He was arrested in January this year in an investigation into the missing drug that began in April last year after the hospital’s automated dispensing system recorded that he was taking medication from it. What he claimed at the time was verbally requested by two doctors, both of whom denied it.
Krem behaved strangely and became ill from time to time the next day.
Krem repeatedly denied stealing the drug, but in January he finally admitted to hospital investigators that he had injected fentanyl during the shift.
His accusations include two counts of possession of controlled substances under the Controlled Substances Act and two counts of failure to create, maintain, or provide records of controlled substances. A warrant has been issued.
