Dietary Supplement Stimulants [DSS]

« Back to Glossary Index

The law defines dietary supplements in part as products taken by mouth that contain a “dietary ingredient.” Dietary ingredients include vitamins, minerals, amino acids, and herbs or botanicals, as well as other substances that can be used to supplement the diet.

Stimulants are included as ingredients in many dietary supplement products, including ones marketed for weight loss, energy enhancement, and pre-workout.

Many kinds of stimulants could be present in dietary supplements, but the following ingredients are common prohibited substances: Acacia rigidula, BMPEA, DMAA, DMBA, Ephedra, Betaphrine, Methylsynephrine and many others.
