A confidential police informant purchased drugs from a Fredericksburg pharmacy without a prescription eight times over the past few months before police raided the business and arrested the owner Wednesday, court records show.

Hardik Sureschchandra Patel, 31, a pharmacist and owner of HnR Family Pharmacy at 3449 Fall Hill Ave. in the city, is charged with 17 felony drug-related charges. He was released on bond from the Rappahannock Regional Jail Thursday, court records show, and has an Aug. 2 hearing in Fredericksburg General District Court regarding who will be representing him in his criminal cases.

Local, state and federal officers raided the pharmacy Wednesday and spent most of the day combing through business records and hauling away potential evidence.

According to an affidavit for a search warrant filed in Fredericksburg Circuit Court, an informant told Stafford Detective S.M. Monaghan in the spring that a person known as “Hardy” was illegally selling controlled prescription narcotics from his Fredericksburg pharmacy.
