Police also found a commercial-sized pill press
Newport police arrested a 28-year-old Wilmington man after finding guns, ammunition, more than 3,000 grams of fentanyl and equipment capable of producing large quantities of pills in four separate searches.
Police began investigating Joseph Thomas on suspicion of drug dealing in January. Through the investigation, police obtained search warrants for a storage unit in the 900 block of Red Lion Road in Bear, a commercial garage in the 700 block of N. Du Pont Road in Wilmington, a home in the first block of Hillview Ave. near New Castle and Thomas’ home in the 100 block of W. 26th St. in Wilmington.
In a search of the storage unit Tuesday, police found a Glock 9×19 handgun, a Smith & Wesson M&P 9 millimeter handgun reported stolen, a Smith & Wesson model 5906 handgun, a Tennessee Arms AR-style handgun and a High Point model 995 rifle.
Police also found a commercial-sized pill press, which police said could produce “a large amount of pills,” a plastic bag containing pill binder, packaging material addressed to Joseph Thomas and multiple calibers of ammunition.
Two days later, police searched the commercial garage and Hillview Avenue home and found more than 3,000 grams of suspected fentanyl, more than $86,000 of suspected drug proceeds, additional ammunition and marijuana.
Police also executed a search of Thomas’ home the same day and took him into custody.
Thomas received multiple drug and firearm charges. He was released after receiving a secured bail.
Newport police received assistance from Newark police; New Castle County police; Delaware State Police; Wilmington police; the Department of Homeland Security investigations team; and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms.
